The Current Situation of the Textile Supply Chain in Vietnam

The textile and garment industry stands as one of Vietnam’s leading export sectors, contributing significantly to the nation’s economic growth with a share of approximately 12-16% of total export revenues[1]. A crucial factor in this sector’s success is the effective sourcing of materials. Currently, around 70% of the raw materials used in Vietnam’s textile industry are imported, with approximately half sourced from China[2] [3]. The reason behind this trait is that although local production of various materials has increased, domestic companies often struggle to meet international standards in both quality and quantity, particularly for high-end export orders[4]. However, this reliance on imports usually presents challenges, especially given the potential risks associated with global supply chain disruptions. Additionally, in many cases, Vietnamese companies must fulfill urgent orders, and sourcing materials from abroad incurs additional costs, including sending personnel to negotiate contracts directly. Furthermore, the lengthy customs clearance process can delay shipments, impacting order fulfillment timelines.[5]

The Role of VIATT 2026

In light of the above industry dynamics, the Vietnam International Trade Fair for Apparel, Textiles, and Textile Technologies (VIATT) 2026 was held from February 26-28, 2026, at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center in Ho Chi Minh City, hosted by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and co-organized by Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd and Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency (VIETRADE). This event aimed to connect Vietnamese enterprises with international suppliers across the textile value chain.

The exhibition provided an excellent opportunity for Vietnamese textile companies to connect with quality suppliers from abroad to exchange ideas, discover products, and consult on various offerings. Direct meetings not only facilitated effective communication but also allowed businesses to physically examine and evaluate product samples. Many international suppliers maintain stock in Vietnam, ensuring they can fulfill orders rapidly for their clients. Additionally, some suppliers have branches or offices in Vietnam, staffed with Vietnamese employees, making collaboration with local buyers efficient and convenient. Buyers even had the opportunity to place orders with suppliers directly at the event.

B&Company’s Support for Vietnamese Buyers at VIATT26 – Case of Elise

Under the authorization of Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd, B&Company, with over 15 years of experience connecting Vietnamese and foreign enterprises, was responsible for compiling the guest list and coordinating business matchings between foreign fabric exhibitors (from Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, Korea, India and Europe) and Vietnamese apparel fabric & home textile manufacturers/distributors seeking to purchase materials, as part of the 1-1 VIP Buyer Business Matching Program.

As part of this buyer business matching program, B&Company successfully invited representatives of Elise to join the event as VIP buyers.

Overview of Elise’s business model, product focus, sourcing strategy, and growth direction

According to Nguyen Vu Dieu Nga, CPO Assistant & Quality control manager, Elise Fashion is one of Vietnam’s leading premium womenswear brands, established in 2011 with the vision of building an internationally recognized Vietnamese fashion label. The company mainly targets women aged 30–45 and focuses on premium officewear, casualwear, occasionwear, and higher-end fashion collections.

ELISE has developed a vertically integrated business model covering design, production, distribution, and customer service, allowing the company to maintain strong quality control and respond quickly to market demand. Its retail network currently includes 131 stores nationwide, supported by growing online sales and active social media channels.

In sourcing, the company mainly procures fabrics from China (60%) and Korea (40%), with demand centered on natural and premium materials such as linen, ramie, silk, and Tencel. Functional features such as cooling effects, wrinkle resistance, and comfort for Vietnam’s hot and humid climate are considered essential. While Japanese textiles are recognized for their high quality, the company views pricing, delivery lead times, and fashion-forward design competitiveness as key challenges.

Looking ahead, ELISE aims to strengthen its domestic leadership position while expanding cooperation with international material suppliers and exploring future opportunities in ASEAN and broader overseas markets.
